What you need to know
The hump is made from joined circular arcs. The height can be found by adding the rise created by the 1,000 mm radius side arc to the rise created by the 1,465 mm central arc. For a circular arc, rise = R - sqrt(R squared - x squared), where x is half the relevant horizontal span.
Tip 1
Work with one half of the symmetrical hump.
Tip 2
Calculate the rise of each arc from its radius and horizontal distance, then add the two rises.
How to solve it
Side arc: rise = 1,000 - sqrt(1,000 squared - 500 squared) = 133.97 mm.
Central arc: use half of the 1,500 mm span, so x = 750 mm. Rise = 1,465 - sqrt(1,465 squared - 750 squared) = 206.82 mm.
Total height = 133.97 + 206.82 = 340.79 mm.
Round to the nearest millimetre.
